Places to visit in THRISSUR

The name Thrissur  is originated from Thiru Siva Peroor, which is now reformed in to Trichur. It is the fourth largest city of kerala.   • Vadakkunnathan Temple



There are many beautiful places to see in thrissur. Firstly, we can move to Vadakkunnathan Temple.This temple is a classic hindu temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It has monumental towers on all four sides. The main attraction of this temple is, the mural paintings which are depicted from Mahabharatha. Encircling the Vadakkunnathan temple, is the main venue of famous festival  "Thrissur Pooram".As part of Thrissur Pooram festival, conducted Pooram Exhibition in Thekkinkkad maidan.

  • Bible Tower






Giving hands to hindu soceity, Christian Sabha encouraged Thrissur Pooram as Trichur's cultural festival. This Bible Tower is the tallest church tower in India and Asia. The cross on  top of the bible tower is to denote "the presence of Roman Catholic Church". In the tower, we can see childhood of Jesus is carved in wood, healing of Jesus in stained glass, miracles of Jesus in brass and so many paintings. This is the minor basilica of Syro-Malabar Catholic Church in thrissur named as"Our Lady of Dolours Basilica".








  • Athirappilly Waterfalls


This is the top tourist destination in Thrissur . Athirappilly waterfall is the largest waterfall in kerala. It has a nick name called "Niagara of India". Athirappilly is situated in the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, amidst of thick forest. So night drive is not good.

 Thrissur Palace is situated in heart of the city itself. Earlier it was  named as Vadakkekkara Palace. This was the center of power of king Rama Varma Shakthan Thampuran . He is the one who introduced Thrissur Pooram festival.  The museum which displays  a large collection of bronze belonging to the period between 12th to 18th centuries.                  

  • Thrissur ZOO

Thrissur Zoo is the oldest zoo in India. It serves as th e home to widw variety of animals, reptiles and birds. The zoo compound includes a natural history museum and an art museum. It is just 2 kilometers from the heart of city. The Zoo is opened 10 am to till 05.15 pm. And Monday is holiday.


  • Lalitha kala Academy
                                                                               
Kerala lalitha kala Academy is established with the objective of conserving and promoting visual arts. Arts include sculptures, paintings, architecture and graphics.This academy recognizes superior works and awarded prestigious awards. 


  • Nehru Park
                                                                             

Nehru Park is a  children's park which is owned by thrissur corporation. There are many rides are placed to children. Even all people can just sit under the tree shades on their leisure hours.There is a beautiful aquarium having large collection of fishes. There is a public children library. It is good to say that nehru park is a blessing.



  • Snehatheeram Beach, Thalikkulam

"Snehatheeram" is a perfect tourist spot to spend a day or evening. Visitors can enjoy with their family. There is a beautiful children's park. Sea shore is completely clean and tidy. The entry fee  to park for adult is Rs 10 and for children is Rs 5. For sea food, a  restaurent named "nalukkettu" is available.




  • Chimmini Dam


Chimminy dam is situated in  Echippara in Mukundapuram Thrissur.    This is the largest dam in thrissur.    The forest department organises trekking and bamboo rafting programmes in and around the wild life sanctuary.



  • Shobha City Mall 

  Shobha city is the famous mall at puzhakkal in thrissur. It is built in 4.7 acres of land with an area of 6 lakh square feet. The mall has a 6 screen multiplexed theatre with centralised A.C.
